This book is a gem, and I recommend it to all levels of readers of biblical Hebrew. The Hebrew Bible virtually all of the terms used in teaching and learning is known by various names, most of which does not make sense until explained concisely. This pocket dictionary is not only that, it clarifies many of the synonyms used in teaching and learning of the language of biblical Hebrew. The definitions are taught up to date and easy to navigate. The dictionary contains terms from the text layer using the critics of the Old Testament in Hebrew. I have the IVP pocket dictionary of Biblical Studies, but as I had begun studying Hebrew, I kept running into many technical terms (grammar, literature, Masoretic, etc.) that are not in the action. But here they are! Rating: 5 / 5
This book is a good addition to the tool body for support and the Bible / textual criticism. This is a dictionary of terms, not a dictionary of Hebrew words mentioned as another expert. It defines more than 2,000 terms dealing with grammar, syntax, linguistics, textual criticism and the critique of OT – Regarding Hebrew, and very practical. To my knowledge there is no such thing in the market and certainly fills the void. Considering the price you can not go wrong with this book. I informed both beginners and advanced users as empfehlen.Es are things you want to change in future editions of the book – see, I hope not. Here are some concrete examples of suggestions and improve the value of the book to believe: 1 Some concepts could use examples. For example, the term “oath” is a brief discussion on the concept and Jouon a reference to the book, but no example. The same is true prophetic perfect conditions, and others who earn an example. There are other terms that the list of examples, but would be good, all have been covered, albeit briefly. Another simple example is “Veritatis kaph” does not offer any examples of what this means, not only is the message “The preposition when used kaph pleonastic. Of course, I’m not an indication of an exhaustive list of examples, only one or two per semester would be an illustration. It is a matter of consistency in the use of Beispielen.2. Inconsistency in the inclusion or exclusion of terms. For example, defines “tribe TD” and “G cells” are terms, but not “N”, “H” and so follows the same system. Instead, it is a mix and match. First, a word of warning: This is NOT a Hebrew dictionary. I ordered it thinking it was a dictionary of words in biblical Hebrew, but that’s not what it is. It is actually a dictionary of terminology used in the study of biblical Hebrew. In other words, there is a dictionary of terms from the fields of linguistics, textual criticism and exegesical method. Fortunately, this dictionary is a valuable addition to the voice of my library. I just looked through a couple of times, but it seems a good reference book for students of linguistics and textual criticism. But is not that what I was looking for when I bought it.
